African Crossroads 2018 Collaboration #3
Grounded Urban Practices in African context: Common challenges, new horizons
Moderated by Omar Nagati & Zahira Asmal
The proposed session aims at sharing with a wider audience the broader context of urban challenges facing African cities and those engaged in creative practices in particular. It highlights the emerging “wave” of grounded urban practices (GUPs) positioning themselves between the creatives and the activists, developing new legal and financial models, deploying new strategies and tactics amidst shifting political and urban landscapes, while experimenting with alternative methods and tools in their action research, design projects and tactical interventions in African cities.
